Craig Edelman - Founder and CEO

Craig studied economics and finance at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and graduated with a B.S. in economics in 1995. From 1995 through 1998, he consulted to Fortune 500 clients as a Financial Analyst at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in New York, Philadelphia and Tokyo. Craig led multiple project teams and completed over 100 assignments during his tenure.

In 1998 he left PriceWaterhouseCoopers to continue his business studies at Cornell University, where he earned an M.B.A. with an emphasis on business development in 2000. While there he was the head teaching assistant for the Entrepreneurship and Personal Enterprise Program. Upon graduation, he was employed by the Clorox Company where he managed the business of national consumer brands. Also in the retail sector, Craig worked for Proctor & Gamble and Rexall Sundown, managing large marketing and product development budgets. Craig invented the EZcarry, and left the corporate life to start HappyWares in 2003.

Alvin Silvey - Director of International Sales

After completing his Bachelor's Degree at Cornell University, Al went on to start his own international shipping business. Silvey Shipping quickly became a very important partner to the world's largest metals, mining and chemicals companies in the world such as Dow, Dupont, Pechiney, Rhone-Poulenc, Sidal Aluminum, Tissen, and others. Al was also instrumental in opening up the US as a trading partner for the Chinese metals industry in the early 1980s. He was also involved with importing consumer goods and developing a cosmetics line for sale in the largest department stores in the U.S. With almost 45 years of import/export experience, Al is a great asset to the company, and HappyWares is grateful to be working with him.

Jay Shapp - Director of Promotions Marketing

After earning his business management degree from Orange County Community College in NY, Jay began his career at IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY in the 1970s. He was a technical expert on all phases of service management in the hardware area. Having total account responsibility for 700 customers, Jay developed a robust skill set for managing and servicing customers. By the late 1990s, Jay added Bell Atlantic, DecisionOne, and International Communications System Services to his experiences.

He joined Happywares in 2004, and helped form the Promotions Marketing Division. As an exclusive supplier of products to the Advertising Specialty Market, Jay works to serve a network of 60,000+ distributors around the globe and has sold ten's of thousands of products.

Max Henderson - 2006 Summer Intern

Max is a business student at Cornell University. Always having wanted to be an entrepreneur, Max had his first experience in high school, where he ran a small IT consulting group. Max is now employed as a web programmer for Cornell's Alumni home page, and is currently the industry relations, fundrasing, and business development lead for CUSat, a 90-person Cornell Project Team charged with the mission of building a pair of satellites for the United States Air Force. His experiences spans from fundraising, sales, and PR to programming and graphic design.

Michael Benkert - Director

Mr. Benkert graduated with a B.A. from the University of Maryland in 1962. He has an extensive and varied business, having worked with the Ford Motor Company in transportation and logistics management for twenty years from 1962 to 1983. Subsequent to Ford, five years were devoted to working in all aspects of real estate development involving marketing, sales, finance management and construction of over 200 town homes in Northern California. He was also a co-owner of a large commercial maintenance company from 1988 to December 2003. He continues as President of Benkert Associates, an investment and marketing firm established in 1983. Mr. Benkert has been an active Rotarian for twenty-two years, in which he served on the board of directors and currently serves as treasurer of the club's endowment board.
